New removable European covers not only protect the upholstery of sofas and armchairs, but can also completely change the interior. The products have recently appeared on the Russian market; they have universal sizes and a variety of colors. Using European covers for upholstered furniture, it is possible to transform a room and add bright colors to it. Easy care and affordable price are the advantages of these products that consumers will definitely appreciate.

Advantages of furniture covers

There was a time when covers could be found in every home with upholstered furniture . But over time, their popularity began to wane, which was greatly facilitated by the emergence of new upholstery fabrics. The explanation for this is quite simple - modern fabrics are characterized by increased wear resistance, however, they also have a certain limit.

And now manufacturers have decided to turn to the once forgotten furniture covers. Today, even well-known manufacturers of Italian and Spanish furniture offer to buy Eurocovers. Such covers are universal and suitable for all types of sofas. The desire of many owners to buy such a cover for their sofa can be explained by the following advantages of these covers:

  • The covers are universal. They can be used to protect any sofas, regardless of their configuration and size.
  • Before purchasing a cover, you do not need to find out the exact dimensions of the sofa in advance. It is enough to know only the length of the back.
  • Safe materials that do not cause allergic reactions are used to make sofa covers.
  • During the manufacturing process, capes are impregnated with a special composition that provides protection from moisture and increases the wear resistance of the product.
  • They are very easy to use, but the main thing is that after putting them on, they exactly follow the contours of the chair and sofa.
  • They are easy to wash and return to their original appearance.
  • Can be made in a wide variety of colors.

Today, nothing can better protect a sofa from a cat than a special sofa cover. The cape has an elastic texture and when the animal tries to “tear” the fabric stretches along with the claws, and the cats no longer get the same pleasure. Therefore, they very quickly lose interest in such furniture.

How to take measurements to buy a Eurocover

There is no need to reinvent the wheel: a size scale for different sofas has long been developed.

Just check the table and choose the right option.

Don't trust the sellers - the products are not dimensionless! Any textile has different stretchability, and if you try to stretch the product over very large furniture, the material will lose all elasticity. It is important to take into account the length of the backrest and the height from the floor to the seat. We must not forget that depth is also important. If there are armrests, their size is also needed.

For corner styles, you also need to measure the back of the corner

For double straight models, the dimensions fall between 120 and 160 cm. For triple models, this figure is 160-250 cm. For corner structures, the total length is up to 5.5 m.

Types of cases

Sofa covers today are presented in a large number of options. If the ready-made model offered in the store does not suit the buyer, he can always place an order for the production of an individual case taking into account his wishes. Of course, such products will cost much more, and on top of that, before ordering you will have to find out the exact dimensions of the sofa. Sofa covers can be classified into several groups:

  • tailor-made;
  • sofa covers with elastic;
  • fragmentary covers for individual parts of the sofa with “sticky” locks;
  • eurocovers.

Types and sizes of European covers for upholstered furniture

There are three types of coverings, which is due to different models of sofas. Each is specially designed for ease of use for specific furniture.

Important! If you are offered a cover with an elastic band, this product is in no way a European cover!

Universal European covers for all types of standard sofas

The versatility of the cover lies in the fact that the structure of the product allows you to stretch it over both a sofa and an armchair. The furniture can be of any shape: the same euro-cover is suitable for both a long model and a corner sofa.

What are Eurocases?

These are products made from special fabrics and reinforced with rubberized threads. They are made from natural, most often cotton, fibers with the addition of acrylic, polyester, and elastane. The use of such additives allows the covers to exactly follow the shape of the furniture. Due to the addition of natural fibers, the fabric provides a pleasant feeling to the human body.

When planning to purchase a sofa cover, you should not forget about the interior of the room. This point was also taken into account by the designers, who were able to create several variants of cases made from the following materials:

  • Jacquard. Such capes are characterized by increased elasticity due to the thin elastic sewn into them. More than 80% of the material consists of natural fabric. Jacquard covers can have different patterns and textures. This is the optimal solution for rooms decorated in a classic or “homey” style.
  • Elastic chenille. It is a fleecy fabric that has good elasticity. In the assortment of manufacturers you can find mainly monochromatic colors. Perfect for rooms decorated in a minimalist style.
  • Thinner fabrics sewn with pleated elastic bands. The peculiarity of such sofa covers is the most spectacular appearance. Covers that have a frill decor at the bottom look even more attractive.
  • Smooth jersey fabric. A fairly thin material, which at the same time has high elasticity and wear resistance, provides a pleasant feeling for the body.

The standard set includes a set for a sofa and a pair of armchairs .
You can buy European chair covers by placing a separate order or purchasing a ready-made set containing two covers.

Operating rules

Each set of covers comes with instructions for caring for them. From it you can learn about the composition of the fabric, as well as get acquainted with recommendations for the preferred washing mode and temperature. It is recommended to wash sofa covers on a delicate cycle. Before putting the covers in the washing machine, they must be turned inside out. There is no need to iron the capes after washing, as they are resistant to deformation.

When choosing a case, you need to pay attention to the manufacturer. If you believe the test results, the highest quality cases are from Italian and Spanish manufacturers. The capes they offer are distinguished by a variety of options and have a nice design. But at the same time they are more expensive than their competitors. A good option are covers from Turkish manufacturers. They are more affordable, but are not as high quality.

Sofa covers from Chinese manufacturers are the most budget option. However, it is wrong to assume that products made in the Middle Kingdom are always of low quality. You need to look first at the manufacturing company. Although even in this case, the risk of stumbling upon a low-quality product remains.

Recommendations for selection

For furniture used in children's rooms, it would be better to purchase capes in bright colors. During games or activities, children can easily get dirty and even damage the sofa. In such a case, it won’t hurt to purchase two capes at once. The same should be done by those owners who quickly get bored with the monotony and who have two sets of curtains - summer and winter.

By purchasing two sets of sofa covers , for example, made of microfiber, you can use one for everyday use and the other for special occasions and holidays. To ensure that upholstered furniture does not stand out from the overall design, you can also purchase chair covers and a tablecloth made from a similar fabric.

Covers are not only a great way to protect furniture and extend its lifespan. They can also be used to update old sofas and armchairs if their original upholstery is long overdue for replacement, which the owner does not yet have the opportunity to do. Covers will quickly hide external defects, and none of the guests will guess that the sofa and armchairs in your home are quite old.

There are people who fall so deeply in love with a sofa because of its functionality that they hesitate to throw it away for a long time. Reupholstery, including cutting, is a rather expensive service. And it is in such cases that you should think about buying universal capes. Europeans have long appreciated the advantages of covers for upholstered furniture and actively use them. In our country, as well as in the rest of the post-Soviet space, capes are just beginning to come into use. Therefore, many do not even know what fabric to sew a sofa cover from.

How to choose a sofa cover?

Although sofa covers are versatile and suitable for any upholstered furniture, there are still a number of parameters that should be taken into account when choosing them.

Material

First, you must decide what material the case will be made of. To do this, you will have to take into account many different factors - do you live alone or with your family, do you have pets in the house. Today, manufacturers can satisfy the needs of every customer and offer a wide variety of furniture covers.

For your sofa, you can order or buy a ready-made cover from the following materials:

  • Relax and jacquard. The most practical option. Their main advantage is maximum strength and durability. These materials are highly rigid, do not form pills, are resistant to fading, are easy to care for and wash, and do not create difficulties in removing dirt.
  • Tapestry. It can be considered as an alternative to jacquard and relaxation. It is no less durable and is perfect as an upholstery material. Has an attractive appearance.
  • Flock and velor. Covers made from these materials have properties that are pleasant to the touch. However, keep in mind that they will not serve you for long and will very soon lose their attractiveness. Especially if you wash them too often.
  • Alcantara. It looks like nubuck and can be considered as one of the material options for making a cover for a couch. The material itself is quite practical, since it is very easy to care for. Typically, car seats are made from this material.
  • Leather. Covers made from this fabric for sofa covers are quite expensive. Its main advantages are naturalness and durability. Only scratches and abrasions that can occur with excessively intensive use can spoil the impression.
  • Gabardine. A material with a very dense structure. One of the popular options for making covers.
  • Crepe satin. Material with a shiny, beautiful structure. It can also be chosen to make a sofa cover. However, it is quite difficult to call it practical. If you don't want it to quickly lose its appeal, we recommend using it only for festive events.

Materials and colors

Euro covers are valued for their quality, but the textiles themselves that are used to make them may differ (in texture, color, with artificial or natural fibers). The peculiarity of such capes is that the material does not lose its shape, is hypoallergenic, pleasant to the touch and airtight. It is important to combine the color scheme of the products and the style of the interior. Delicate tones are inappropriate for a high-tech room, but are perfect for Provence or country. Wine and rich colors are combined with minimalism, loft and modernism, for example, light green capes are too bright for most rooms, but they are quite suitable for Art Deco.

Classic interiors “welcome” stripes or small flowers, this softens the bulkiness of the decor. A range from bright green to blue (in combination with snow-white or purple) is suitable. Baroque looks good with dense fabrics that create the effect of expensive options, such as jacquard or chenille. Country suggests a natural palette: beige, shades of the sky, greenery. Modern goes well with microfiber.

The highest quality European covers with increased density are made from jacquard and chenille. Microfiber has the greatest elasticity. If you want to focus on an unusual design, pleated or “Fantasy” options are preferable. Some fabrics are especially soft, first of all, we are talking about “plush” chenille, microfiber, and jersey.

Step-by-step instructions for upholstering furniture with your own hands

Features of materials used for manufacturing:

  1. Jacquard is a textile with a three-dimensional pattern that is created using a complex weave. Consists of cotton threads with the addition of synthetic fibers (polyester, elastane). Jacquard throws look like real upholstery. The material is scratch-resistant, elastic, and holds its shape well. Silver and gold threads are often woven into the fabric. The disadvantage of the material is its high cost; natural material is more expensive than synthetic material.
  2. Chenille - its surface is not smooth, but a little fluffy. The material is velvety and soft to the touch. Chenille composition: acrylic, polyester, cotton. The threads are closely intertwined, it is difficult to damage them and disrupt the structure. It is characterized by increased stability (thanks to acrylic and polyester) and can withstand significant loads. Features of chenille: bright colors, original pattern. This soft Euro slipcover fabric has a plush surface that adheres snugly to your furniture. Cons: snags appear quickly; need to be cleaned without using aggressive detergents.
  3. Pleated - a cover made from it is primarily distinguished by its unusual design (many models have decorative skirts along the lower edge). Suitable for country, ethno, fusion styles. The fabric is smooth, even, plain or with a small pattern. The pleated stretches well and is resistant to damage. The main disadvantage is difficult care.
  4. Microfiber is a fabric made of very fine fibers, dense and non-fading. It produces maximally stretchable capes, suitable for products of non-standard shape. It is highly durable, practical, and does not roll down. It does not create snags, and odors are not absorbed into the fabric. Some models have a pearlescent sheen. Cons: attracts dust and lint, is not cheap.
  5. Jersey is an elegant fabric with a soft, smooth texture. This is a stretch material (composed of polyester and elastane). The density of such furniture capes is average, sometimes it has antimicrobial impregnation. The material is easy to care for, hardly wrinkles, breathes well, drapes, and can be washed in a machine. The downside is the high cost.
  6. With kanekalon fibers - a fabric that prevents the spread of fire. It contains refractory kanekalon fibers. If sparks hit the surface, the material becomes charred and does not ignite. At the same time, it is valued for its environmental friendliness and waterproofness. The material does not absorb liquids, all drops linger on the surface and are easily removed. The disadvantage is that the cost of the fabric is higher than average.

Recently, Euro-cases “Fantasy”, made from various materials, have become popular. This is the name of the classic models that have a “skirt” on the lower edge of the product. A stretch cover of this type looks impressive. It is recommended for styles where smooth lines are acceptable, for example, Provence. Minus - not suitable for all interiors.
