Unique furniture sets optimize living space as much as possible. A popular type of this design is the loft bed, which will be a real boon for a child or teenager. This model provides a work area, including a place for studying, sports, and games. The atmosphere created by modern furniture models develops children, develops self-care skills, and fosters composure and neatness.

Design advantages

Among the positive aspects of such beds are the following:

Saving effort and money. Having bought a loft bed, you don’t have to search all the stores for furniture of the same style, because this complex already has everything you need. In addition, the cost of individual items is higher, so it is better to buy one design at once.

Room decoration. For a girl you can buy a bed in the shape of a fairytale castle, and for a boy - in the shape of a car. If you want something original, then experts will help you create a design project that will fit perfectly into the design of the room.

Space saving. Compactness is the main distinguishing feature of the design. Everything you need for relaxation and study is located in one place.

Transformation. The child is growing, which means the sleeping space should increase. The loft bed can be rebuilt taking into account age characteristics.

Disadvantages of this furniture

Bed height. It is better to equip the bed with sides so that the child does not fall from a decent height in his sleep. If the baby is too active, then you should use safety belts.

Parental controls are limited. This design will make it difficult to monitor the child’s condition if he is sick. After all, parents will not be able to so easily come up and feel the forehead or put mustard plasters on the patient if he is in his sleeping place.

Before purchasing, be sure to compare different photos of a loft bed to understand which option will fit perfectly into the interior. In addition to the appearance, you need to pay attention to the paint and varnish with which the bed is covered. The safety of the child is paramount.

Apartment buildings have a serious drawback - the rooms do not have extra space, and you have to be creative when arranging furniture in the apartment. We'll talk about a bed with a table. The structure of an attic bed is similar to a simple bunk bed.

In both cases, a staircase is provided, and the sleeping area is on the second floor.

One difference is that in a two-story design there is a sleeping place on the first tier, and a bed with a loft is made with a folding table. Before purchasing an expensive item, you should have a good understanding of its positive and negative properties, what types and features exist.

It is also necessary to understand how the entire structure is installed.

Types of models - what are the varieties?

Varieties of loft beds are distinguished not only by size and age criteria. All models also differ in the way they organize the lower space. Below are the most common options.

Standard

The simplest model of a loft bed is a structure on high supports with a sleeping area at the top and empty space below. The furniture can be mounted with legs on the floor. At will, the owner leaves the lower tier empty or fills it at his own discretion. The equipment is selected depending on the purpose of the functional area. If necessary, all elements can be rearranged, updated or completely removed. One zone can easily be converted into another.

With work area

Sleeping furniture with elongated legs (especially for two people) forms a spacious niche underneath. You can use it as a convenient work area. There can be many configuration options: table, chair, cabinets, shelving, cabinet, bookshelves, mini-sofa or armchair.

The methods for installing tables are also different:

  1. Roll-out, pull-out, and folding tables are used in low beds.
  2. If the model is tall, the table is installed directly under the bed.
  3. Sometimes the table is part of the structure and is located next to the bed. This option is more suitable for spacious rooms.

Tabletops come in different shapes (round, square, oval, rectangular, curly) and sizes.

With wardrobe

A loft bed with a wardrobe looks like this: there is a sleeping place at the top, and underneath there is a multi-component storage system that fills all the free space. It consists of cabinets, drawers, shelves, and racks. Even the steps leading to the upper tier can be equipped with additional compartments for things.

Types of door opening systems:

  1. Swing. This is the traditional option. The doors are mounted on hinges and open towards themselves using a handle.
  2. Sliding. The most popular option. Unlike the previous one, it does not require a reserve of space to open. The doors simply slide apart, like in a train compartment.
  3. Foldable. When the doors open, they form an accordion. It looks original, but in a small room the system is not very convenient, as it requires additional space.

The fronts of the cabinets are decorated in different ways, giving the room individuality and brightness. They can be painted in bright colors, drawings and applications are applied to them. Images printed using photo printing look beautiful. Mirrors are often installed on the doors; this option is not only beautiful, but also practical.

With play area

For kids, you can create an entertaining play area from a loft bed. Moreover, not only the lower part of the structure is used for this. The place under the bed is turned into a house, a palace, a carriage, a car. To create an interesting ambiance, curtains, windows, and turrets are added. Additionally, a slide is attached to the second tier and a swing is hung. Sometimes the area under the sleeping place is left free, organizing a spacious playground there with toy boxes, a small table for drawing, a small chair or an armchair.

With wall bars

Another interesting way to use a free niche under a high berth is to create a sports corner with a Swedish wall there. This will help entertain the child and improve his health. You can equip the functional area with ropes, rope ladders, horizontal bars, and rings. All hanging equipment is attached to the upper floor, and mats are spread below. There are also storage boxes for sports equipment.

So, as you can see, a loft bed is an acquisition that is beneficial from different angles.

Advantages and disadvantages

Combined furniture is widely used by many designers and has gained popularity among different categories of buyers.

This design has many advantages. But, unfortunately, it also has disadvantages.

    The small square footage of the apartment causes great inconvenience. Therefore, beds designed as a “loft bed” have gained great popularity. Thanks to this decision, a new place is freed up.

The idea of combining everyday furniture elements and a bunk bed helped to visually increase the volume of the apartment and free up new space.

Thus, it is possible to design a sleeping place that fully satisfies all the needs of the child.

Note that such a “hybrid” takes up the area (except for the height) of a regular bed.

Minuses

Like everything else, bunk beds have disadvantages.

All the disadvantages of this design are minor, but they are worth paying due attention to.

Below are the main disadvantages and problems that arise during installation and operation.

    The first and most significant disadvantage is the risk of serious injury. Since the bed is at a considerable height, it is important that there are sides on the side opposite to the wall.

Sometimes, due to a high mattress, the size of the side is not enough.

In addition to the ascent, the descent also becomes difficult.

But with proper skill and experience, the time needed to change linen will be significantly reduced.

You can't just move it like that.

Types of bed designs with a table

A computer or desk is an important part of any children's or teenager's room. Often there is no room for a table. A modern loft bed with a table will be a good help in the housing issue. The many different designs can easily become confusing.

Therefore, it is important to understand the types of such structures, as well as their features.

There are several beds for teenagers and children with different table layouts:

    With the table located directly under the bed;

Each manufacturer tries to make their products functional and at the same time interesting in appearance.

When purchasing a bed, you need to look at how the manufacturer has applied known standards to their design project.

A child will feel comfortable on such a bed if all the parts are combined correctly and comfortably.

The classic desk, which occupies almost the entire space under the bed, has gained great popularity. This solution is convenient because it has a wide working space area. This desk allows you to concentrate on your work without being distracted by extraneous matters.

You can also take up free space under the table with drawers.

The advantage of a bed with a sliding tabletop is that it has a small height. A low bed is especially suitable for small children. The risk of serious injury from falling out of bed is virtually minimal. All free space under the bed is occupied by built-in drawers. The only negative is that the workplace is not large enough for full-time work.

The chair is located near the bed, and not under it, which means it takes up a lot of free space.

Thanks to the engineers who designed the table in the corner, maximum savings in square footage are achieved. The freed up space can be used as a wardrobe with a small chest of drawers. But there is also room for a chair or armchair.

As with the retractable tabletop, the corner design does not have little work space.

No matter what bed you choose, it is important not to forget about quality lighting.

In addition to the suggested options, you can think of your own.

Designs, types, materials

Like any other furniture, the loft bed comes in three versions: wooden, chipboard, metal. There are also combined options - a wooden frame, cabinets and shelves made of chipboard or MDF. Metal structures are the least common - for some reason they are not the most popular option, although there are no complaints about their strength.

Next, we will consider the structural elements and their varieties, which may be important.

Ladder

In many ways, the convenience of using a sleeping place is determined by the stairs (and the peace of parents too). Let’s immediately look at what the steps can be made of:

  • Made from a round metal pipe (usually chrome plated). Of course, the pipe is strong, but its surface is smooth and slippery. For young children this may be a problem.
  • Made from wooden slats of small width. This option is also not for small children.
  • Made from wide planks. That's better. Please note that the child’s foot should fit completely (or better yet with a small margin) on the step.

In addition, there are different shapes of stairs. The most dangerous are vertically packed slats (on the side or in the front - it doesn’t matter). For boys of middle school age and older, this is not a problem. For sports ladies too. For the rest, choose other designs.

Crossbars positioned one above the other are not suitable for everyone

It is much more convenient when the stairs have a slope. They can be with or without railings. With railings is the safest option, but it takes up quite a lot of space and it is not always possible to “fit” such a staircase.

Choosing a loft bed for children

An inclined staircase is certainly more convenient, but it takes up a lot of space

Convenient if space allows

There are also staircases built on the side with large full steps. They, of course, take up even more space, but so that it doesn’t just disappear, drawers are hidden under the steps. You can put things or toys in them.

Choosing a loft bed for children

There are boxes hidden under the steps of the stairs

For those who have two or more children, it is often necessary to somehow block access to the upstairs for the younger ones. They learn to climb up quickly, but going down can be problematic. There is an interesting option - a staircase divided into two parts with a platform.

This design is generally safer: it’s easier to go up and down. It is also easy to implement a barrier for kids - you can put a door, for example.

What's underneath

As you saw in the photo, a children's loft bed on the first floor can have:

  • workplace;
  • play area;
  • storage system - cabinets, shelves, drawers;
  • sofa.

There are also combinations or, as they say, multifunctional beds - under the bed there is a closet with a play area or workplace. It is very convenient when there are a lot of cabinets and drawers. This is a great solution for saving space in a small room. There are almost no complaints about such models.

Children's loft bed with pull-out table top

You may not like the filling of the closets (there are few shelves, but there is a lot of space for things on hangers, of which children usually do not have a very large number). But you can remake it or order your own (if the company provides such opportunities). But installing a few shelves or wire laundry baskets yourself will be much cheaper.

With a workplace

A fairly popular option is a loft bed with a work space. To save space, this is a great option, but there is one “but”. According to the recommendations of pediatricians, the desktop should have a variable height - it should grow with the child. There is no such possibility in these designs. Although, to be honest, desks rarely come with height adjustment either. So whether you accept this argument or not is up to you.

Loft bed with workplace

Another point is that very little sunlight falls on the table of such a workplace. You can, of course, organize good artificial lighting, but it is not always a full-fledged substitute. Another solution is to place it so that the light from the window falls on the tabletop.

There are also models with a retractable table. This option will suit many people - it’s compact and quite convenient.

With play area

There are usually no problems with placing the playing area on the first tier. Two shelves can be made around the perimeter on which popular toys can be stored. But there are usually few such shelves. If you have no place to store toys, you can finish or put on shelves the boxes in which you already put the toys.

One of the equipment options is a children's loft bed with a slide. Usually it comes as a component of the play area, but it can also be combined with cabinets. There are many options...

Choosing a loft bed for children

Loft bed with slide is popular among children

The option with a play area easily turns into a bed with a house. To do this, it is enough to make walls, and it can be made of fabric. This greatly increases children’s interest and they can spend a long time playing games. And if you install lighting inside or put a lamp (preferably with LEDs from batteries or accumulators - there is no glass or electricity), then the house will keep the children occupied for a long time.

Interior design for a children's room is described here.

With a sofa

A loft bed with a built-in sofa is rare - the furniture turns out to be oversized. Such options are already for teenagers. The second bed (and the third if the sofa is folding) can be used either for a second child, or as a reserve in case relatives arrive. And teenagers usually use it for get-togethers with friends.

Multifunctional beds for teenagers

These are combined options - bed + wardrobe + workplace. The layout may vary. In this option, you need to look first of all at the dimensions and how the entire structure will fit. It is these options that already have a quite respectable height for the sleeping place - about 1.6-1.7 meters. Otherwise, the teenagers below will feel uncomfortable.

Operating experience

Some of the problems that may arise—the difficulty of service and communication—have already been described above. But there is one more point - sustainability. At a significant height, the structure turns out to be quite shaky. And since children are great fidgets, there were cases when they turned over the beds. Here are the recommendations:

  • immediately strengthen all joints and fastenings, adding mounting metal plates wherever possible;
  • figure out how to attach the bed to the wall (firmly and securely).

One more point: sometimes the standard height of the railing is not enough. For your own peace of mind, you can increase the railings. Again, this is from experience - children fell in their sleep... From the same series - add railings to the stairs or make them higher.

Choosing a bed

When choosing a bed, you should take into account all the needs of the child. Does he need free space, will there be a computer and how many clothes needs to be hung in the closet. Depending on the age of the child, his needs change. When buying him a children's bed, it is important to remember that it will become obsolete in a few years, and you may need to buy a new one.

There is nothing reprehensible if you buy a bed “to grow into,” since you are buying it for a long time.

Expert opinion

Stepanov Mikhail Filippovich

Designer of private and commercial interiors. 5 years of experience.

When buying a loft bed, you should consider what raw materials it is made from. It is the material of the bed that will be the main reason for the long service life of the bed.

Knowing what the furniture is made of will make it much easier to care for it.

The main material at the best price is a board made of pressed sawdust. The board is treated with a special coating that is easy to clean and also imitates wood or any other color. Such furniture looks quite beautiful and adds style to the room. The advantages of this material are that the furniture is much lighter than its counterparts.

The bed, made of panels with sawdust, is easily installed in the right place.

But there is a significant drawback - in an aggressive environment, the furniture will deteriorate greatly and eventually become unusable. Also, pressed sawdust with resin is a rather fragile thing.

If used carelessly, chipped corners may appear.

It is noteworthy that you can make a loft-type bed, designed with a folding table or a regular one with a metal frame. The design has an unlimited warranty period. Sturdy racks withstand mechanical stress well. The maximum that can be damaged is the enamel. If used carelessly, you can leave dents.

The disadvantage of this design is the high price.

About Kids Loft Bed Styles

First of all, it is worth noting that the style of furniture products is formed based on the age range of children.

For example, if a child is just going to kindergarten, then the style of a small house will become relevant in this case. And again, here there is a genre division in accordance with the gender differences of children: boys are attracted to cars, and girls are attracted to dolls. Therefore, for children of kindergarten age, it is better to choose beds made in bright colors: pink and yellow for girls, and green and blue for boys. Little ones will appreciate such a chic gift.

A double bed can be placed at the bottom of the loft bed

Many attics on the ground floor have special windows for playing. Regardless of gender, both boys and girls dote on such apartments.

Of course, school-age children (especially if we talk about middle school children) are unlikely to be surprised by such stylistic features, since their mental development has already moved to a new level. of children's loft beds also has its own advantages for students

Corsair models have these properties. Think back to yourself as a teenager. You wanted to sail the deep oceans, conquer new worlds, feel like a sea warrior, and so on. Children's dreams are the main thing that makes every child happy. And attic corsairs (a new model of bed furniture) fully realize the bright adolescent impulses.

Dimensions and features

The loft bed has the same dimensions as a regular single bed, except for the height. The whole point is for a bunk bed to take up as little space as possible, but still have many useful features. The height of such structures reaches about 2 meters.

This is enough to fit underneath and also fit comfortably at the top of the bed.

If you wish, focusing on your needs, you can develop your own design with a consultant. Order the materials in the right sizes and get the perfect bed to suit all your needs. You can change not only the height and width of the bed, but also choose what the desk will be like. It is advisable to think through small design elements.

For example, design several drawers or install a wardrobe.

The final design stage will be color selection. A bunk bed should ideally match the interior of the entire room. After receiving all the parts, you can begin installation, after which the assembled bed will be ready. All you need to do is make the bed.

Advantages and disadvantages of a children's loft bed

This model of the children's furniture industry has a number of advantages, which are described in detail in the introductory article. Let's repeat the key ones: a comfortable sleeping place, spacious drawers in which you can hide toys and textbooks, a separate work area with a desk, a functional staircase with additional drawers for necessary items built into the steps.

Functional children's loft bed

In addition to the positive qualities, there are also disadvantages of an attic bed. These include:

  1. Sleeping place high from the floor.
  2. It is difficult for parents to reach the child.
  3. Children are afraid of heights.
  4. Falling from such a bed is painful and dangerous.

A yellow loft crib will lift your child's spirits

Given the fabulousness described, this model is well compatible with a simple model.

Advice: buy your child two beds: one standard, and the second - a children's loft bed . This alternative will make the child very happy; depending on his mood, he will be able to roam from one sleeping place to another.

It is better to have a children's loft bed as a change or addition to a regular floor bed, if space in the room allows

At night, it is difficult for a child to go down the steps to relieve himself. In the dark, stairs are not the most pleasant pleasure for children. On the other hand, if the child sleeps with light on, then this problem is partly solved.

Thus, choosing a loft bed is a combination of business and pleasure and a serious step on the part of parents.

Children of any age need conditions for proper rest, activities or games. In small rooms, it is the loft bed with a table and wardrobe that allows you to organize a comfortable multifunctional area.

Similar models of various modifications are also installed in small one-room apartments. Furniture manufacturers and designers take into account the different needs of customers, so they offer many options.

Large selection of designs for the range of beds

The children's loft bed is represented on the furniture industry market in a fairly large trade offer. Design designers have developed many different styles of designs for future beds.

The genre boundaries of the available models differ from each other. You can purchase a standard loft bed, which will be made in a classic style, or a sophisticated miracle bed with a screwed-on ship’s steering wheel. Mass and serial production of such models of children's furniture is due to the wide taste range of consumers.

Wooden loft bed is a classic option

Many loft sleeping styles go beyond an adjacent desk and built-in shelving. The designers have developed an interesting model of a children's loft bed , which includes a wardrobe for outerwear. This set combines the main elements of any home: bed, table, cabinets, wardrobe.

By making such a purchase, adults save a good amount of money and time, saving themselves from unnecessary shopping trips.

Design features

A loft bed with a desk and wardrobe allows you to create several functional areas in a limited area. There are several features of such furniture:

  • compactness - one product provides a full-fledged sleeping place, desk, storage system for writing instruments or even clothes;
  • functionality - some designs allow you to use all zones at the same time, without additional folding out individual elements;
  • dynamic furniture - for some design models you can change the height of the bed, add or remove individual shelves and drawers;
  • variability - manufacturers offer many ways to arrange individual elements of the structure. We also offer a variety of design and furniture options.

When choosing furniture for a child, it is important to take into account his age and physiological characteristics. For children under 7 years old, it is better to install structures no higher than a meter.

Younger schoolchildren (7-11 years old) will find it convenient to use furniture about one and a half meters high. Products with a height of 1.8 m are quite suitable for teenagers and students.

The width of the bed and the dimensions of the working surface are selected more individually.

Design Features

Such a bed is called an attic because the sleeping place is located at such a height that it can only be reached with the help of a ladder. A free space is formed below, which is used in different ways: as a dressing room, a study, a relaxation area, a library or an additional sleeping place in the form of a sofa.

Office under the bed

To go upstairs, you need to use the stairs, so this bed design is only suitable for people in good physical shape. The staircase can be made in the form of vertical slats or an inclined structure with handrails. In the second case, it is necessary that the stairs do not serve as an obstacle when moving around the room.

The ladder must be securely attached to the bed frame

A staircase in the form of boxes, the top covers of which serve as steps, will be more familiar. You can store things inside, thereby relieving a small room of unnecessary furniture.

Functional steps with containers for things

Often a loft bed is chosen as a functional sleeping place in a children's room, where it is necessary to combine several functional areas. However, a double bed for adults differs from a children's bed only in the width of the bed and a more massive supporting structure.

Loft bed in a teenager's room

Modern furniture stores offer a wide range of loft beds, so choosing the right size and design option is not difficult.

Multifunctional design with wardrobe and workstations

To make the frame, natural wood or metal is used. Laminated chipboards are used as non-load-bearing elements. On the upper tier of the structure a sleeping place is arranged, and below the free space is used depending on needs, equipping a wardrobe, workplace or living room.

A stationary bed on 4 supports can be installed anywhere in the room

The main advantages of loft beds for adults are their ability to save space, the ability to combine several functional areas in one place and an original design that will make the interior expressive and memorable.

Options for arrangement of elements

Among all the variety of furniture, two methods of arranging a sleeping place relative to the work area and storage systems can be distinguished.

Parallel

Expert opinion

Stepanov Mikhail Filippovich

Designer of private and commercial interiors. 5 years of experience.

In this design, the tabletop and bed are located on the same line. The main advantages of the furniture: the product takes up little space, the elements are arranged compactly. This design can be placed in the room in two ways:

  • the bed is placed along the wall (in the corner or in the center). In such models, the workplace can be located along the entire length of the structure or occupy only part of the area. The depth of the tabletop can be different: half the width of the bed, about 2/3 or the entire width of the bed. In the first case, the child will sit under the second tier and it is necessary to ensure that the bed is installed at a sufficient height so as not to hit his head. If the tabletop is wider, then the chair is located in front of it. The ladder can be attached both from the ends of the bed and within the working area. If the area of the room allows, then a chest of drawers is installed on the side of the structure, in which there are special storage systems in the form of drawers;
  • The bed is installed with its end facing the wall. In this case, the workplace is not made to span the entire width of the bed in order to leave space for cabinets. The depth of the tabletop may vary. To prevent the bed from overly blocking the room, additional shelves or storage areas are not installed at the free end. For such models, the ladder is most often attached near the work area.

The main disadvantage of such furniture models is the limited area on which the work area and storage systems are organized.

Perpendicular

Such designs require the location of the sleeping area and work area at right angles to each other. The main advantages of an attic bed with a desk: a more aesthetic appearance, a variety of possibilities for decorating a work area and creating storage spaces, comfortable conditions for studying or working. Depending on the width of the bed and the tabletop, the work area can be located under the bed or on the side of it:

  • in designs with fairly wide beds (from 90 cm), the tabletop can be installed clearly under the bed. At the same time, the depth of the workplace can be very different. The wardrobe on the first tier is also located perpendicular to the bed and can be placed inside the structure (open doors should not interfere with the child sitting at the table). If the storage system is installed on the outer end side, then its depth may vary;
  • if the loft bed with a table has a modest width (up to 90 cm) and the area of the room allows it, then it is advisable to install models in which the work area is located on the side of the structure. Such furniture can become a real interior decoration. Sufficient tabletop area allows for a comfortable arrangement of office equipment. Even if storage systems are equipped only inside the structure, their area is sufficient to accommodate clothing and personal items.

The main disadvantage of such products is that such furniture takes up more space and may not fit into compact spaces.

Loft bed dimensions

The overall dimensions (length, width and height) of a loft bed can be very different, depending on who the bed is intended for, its shape (classical, in the form of a house, car, etc.), materials of manufacture and the presence of additional elements .

Lenght and width

There is no single length and width, so first you should decide for whom this furniture is being purchased, what functions it should perform (presence of a workplace, storage shelves, locker, etc.) and take the size of the bed as a basis. Next, measure the parameters of the free area where the loft bed will be installed and, guided by the available data, make a choice.

Loft bed height

Such furniture is also distinguished by height:

  • low: for children of school and preschool age (75-160 cm);
  • medium height: for teenage children (160-180 cm);
  • tall: for adults (180-200 cm).

The minimum distance from the sleeping area to the ceiling should be at least 70 cm.

Possible cabinet models and their contents

When choosing furniture, special attention is paid to the arrangement of storage systems. Children's loft beds, as a rule, are equipped with wardrobes in addition to a work space, which is a big plus for small-sized apartments.

The presence of a closet allows you to completely store your children's wardrobe in it. Manufacturers take into account the different needs of consumers, so most often you can choose the internal content yourself.

There are several common types of cabinets.

Corner

Such furniture is most often built-in and located under the bed. The most common option for filling a closet: rails for clothes, open shelves, drawers.

The main advantage of furniture with a corner cabinet is that a lot of space is allocated for storing things, which saves room space. Main disadvantages: large depth of shelves (sometimes it is difficult to get things out), poor visibility of items on the shelves.

Lateral

Such models are located at the end of the structure. Depending on the depth of the closet, a railing for hanging clothes on hangers, open shelves and drawers for small items can be installed inside. If the bed is wide enough, then the closet can be made narrow, and space nearby can be left for open shelves for books and souvenirs.

The advantages of furniture are that it is convenient to use the shelves, the depth of the products can be different, the closet can be located the entire height of the bed or only part of it, there is a good overview of the contents of the shelves, things are not difficult to get out. One of the disadvantages is the mandatory presence of free space for opening doors (therefore, such a bed cannot be placed in the corner of the room).

Linear

These models are built-in and are most often installed in models with a narrow sleeping area, otherwise it will be difficult to use the shelves. If the structure is high enough, the cabinet can be divided into sections.

A railing is mounted in the upper part for hanging clothes on hangers; the upper shelf is intended for storing out-of-season clothes. Drawers and open shelves are most often located below.

The main advantages of such cabinets: saving the usable space of the room, furniture can be installed in the corner, the shelves are quite convenient to use, since things are visible and easy to get out.

Wardrobes
