It is likely that a “professional” Chinese transforming ladder will cost less than a “household” European or American one.
  2. Materials . Professional models are often made of steel, fiberglass, or a combination of steel and aluminum.
  3. Maximum permissible load per step. For professional models, it should not be lower than 150 kg. For household models, a value of 100–150 kg is allowed.

  4. Profile wall thickness. For metal models, the thickness of the steps should be 1 mm for steel and 1.5 mm for aluminum.
  5. Functionality and equipment. The functionality of professional articulated ladders is often expanded with additional devices that expand the possibilities of working at height: bucket hooks, organizers and holders for tools, paint trays, etc. Standard equipment may include solid metal flooring, removable work platforms and shelves.
  6. Number of steps and length when unfolded . As a rule, the number of steps in professional models is higher than four in one section. The length of a fully unfolded ladder sometimes reaches 7–8 m. For domestic purposes, a length of up to 4–6 m is sufficient.
  7. Connection elements. Professional “transformers” use forged elements, while household ones use stamped elements.

Indirect signs of the professional purpose of an articulated ladder may be the inscriptions “heavy duty” and “professional”, but you should not believe them too much, because this could be a marketing ploy. This is especially true for products from little-known Chinese brands.

Design Features

The design has its own original features. Regular legs serve as fastenings for steps. From an ordinary chair or stool, a ladder or stepladder is obtained in a few movements. There are several categories of such furniture that you can completely create with your own hands:

  • Stationary option. This is a fairly high stool, the legs are inclined several degrees, and between them there are special slats that act as steps;
  • Folding option. This option has the appearance of a chair, which, through mechanical manipulation, can be turned into a ladder or stepladder. It can be used as a stool or stored in a compact folded form in the pantry;
  • Transformer. This option can be called the most original, practical and interesting, which is not only functional equipment, but also a convenient and interesting piece of furniture. In one movement the chair turns into a ladder or stepladder.
