For knitted poufs, wool or half-woolen yarn, acrylic in half with wool, 100 m thick / 50 g in a skein, is best suited.
Depending on the size of the ottoman, you may need from 500 g to 1600 grams.
It is very popular now to knit from knitted yarn and such a knitted pouf looks very beautiful, neat, and bright. But imagine the cost of such a product and the consumption of knitted yarn for a pouf, if a skein of 50 grams and only 30 m long costs 350 rubles! Well, perhaps you have a lot of old T-shirts from which you cut yarn, the principles of knitting from it are the same as simple poufs from wool yarn, only you will need to take 8-10 hooks.

Lining

Filler

To create a pouf from a tire, a circle of plywood is cut out along its diameter and attached to the tire using self-tapping screws. For a pouf with a diameter of 48 cm and a height of 24 cm, you will need 100 grams of thick yarn (80% acrylic, 20% wool) in five different colors for stripes and 300 grams of yarn in the main color (bright red). Recommended hook size is #10.

When crocheting this pouf, single crochets are used. You need to start knitting from the top, casting 5 VP, and then - according to the rules of the circle, adding loops in each row and alternating different colors of threads.

How to crochet
It’s very easy to make a pouf yourself by crocheting it. For this you need up to 1 kg of yarn.
For knitting, hooks No. 6 and No. 10 are used, respectively.
Simple round
To knit a simple version, you need 800 grams of yarn. Moreover, 100 grams of five colors and 300 grams of the main shade. You need to knit a single crochet stitch. It is recommended to start with 5 hanging loops and add one on each row. Different threads alternate.
Having reached the middle, there is no need to add, here the main color will go in several rows. Then there is a decrease in one loop on each row. When a small hole remains, you need to insert the filler into the pouf. You can use a bag of polypropylene balls. When the last 6 loops remain, tighten them with a needle.
Scheme with embossed columns

In this case, you can use a pattern with embossed columns. Rolled foam roll as filler. The knitting pattern is simple. You need to make a circle to the desired diameter, adding loops on each row. And then stop doing this and just knit the product to the desired height. The whole thing ends in a circle with decreasing loops, one on each row. The remaining 6 loops are sewn with a needle.
We stuff the cover tightly with filler, tie the top with a rope, and straighten out the remaining fabric

Striped
Knitted large striped pouf consists of three parts: top, bottom and middle. The first two parts are made in the form of circles. While the third is knitted in turning rows. To get stripes, you need to change colors. The length of this workpiece is determined by the circumference of the top of the product (circle). The blanks are connected by tying single crochets.
From square motifs
The decorative product consists of many individually connected squares. They may differ in patterns and shades. Moreover, each of the blanks can be made in different colors. Then all the squares are connected together. It turns out the side part. The top and bottom of the pouf are knitted as in the simple version. It can be done simply with a single crochet stitch. The connection of the side and the top is done in a slow step.

And although in the photo there are poufs knitted with a smooth pattern, the pattern is exactly with embossed columns. (There was no photo for this pattern from a handicraft magazine unknown to me).
The difference between knitting a cylindrical pouf and a round one is only in its size: the diameter is smaller and the height is larger (40 x 50 cm).
Here it is enough to knit 8 rows of a circle according to the pattern, and then knit all rows without increases as the 8th to the desired height of the pouf.
Insert a rolled up roll of foam rubber into the resulting cylinder and sew a round leather piece at the bottom.

The total yarn consumption is 700 grams: 100 grams for each of the seven colors. I think it will be very convenient to use leftover yarn.

The lower and upper parts of the pouf are two crocheted circles. Knitting in single crochets with changing colors in the rows. Approximately, you need to knit 48 rows, while in rows 18,19, 27, 28, 32, 33, 39, 40, 44, 45, do not increase, this way you will get a hemisphere.
The side side is knitted on 44 loops in rotating rows, also with color changes. The length of this strip can be checked by the circumference of the circular part. At the end of knitting, connect the last row with the first into a ring and tie the upper edge of the ring with double crochets.
Then connect the side part with a round hook, tying it with single crochets.
Square pouf

This pouf is proposed to be knitted from wool melange yarn (100m/50g). Consumption: 450 grams per pouf with a height of 18 cm and a diameter of 50 cm at a knitting density obtained with crochet No. 6.

It is more convenient to start knitting from the middle part, consisting of square motifs. The motifs are easily knitted according to the pattern below in circular rows.
Connect 9 ready-made motifs together into a ring.
The upper and lower parts can be knitted similarly to the previous striped model. But if you start with a square, then it should be tied to the shape of a circle in the 7th row as follows: on the side of the square - 3СБН, 5PS, 5С1Н, 5ПС, 3СБН, in the corner loop - 2СБН, 3С1Н, 2СБН.
And then knit like a circle until the diameter is equal to the diameter of the ring of motifs.
Connect the round parts to the ring in a slow step.
What you will need

Materials for making an ottoman
Take those knitting needles or hook that are suitable in thickness for the selected threads. The best option is 10-15 mm. If you can find such a tool, a pouf from knitted yarn will be made quite quickly.
Knitted round pouf
You will need about 800 grams of yarn (50m/50g) for a pouf measuring 50x28 cm. Knitting needles - straight No. 8.
The pattern is garter stitch (knit all rows).
Description
You need to knit a pouf with knitting needles in the transverse direction on 24-30 loops in rotating rows.
In the first two rows we knit all the loops.
In the next 2 rows at the end of the row we do not knit 4 loops, tighten the last loop and turn the work.
In the 5th-6th row we do not knit the last 8 loops.
In the 7th row we knit all the loops to the end.
In row 8, we are knitting again on all loops.
This will form a ball. Having knitted 120-130 cm, we close all the loops.
Pull a thread through the edges on one side, pull it together and sew it up.
Sew the first row to the last.
