How to organize space in your closet: 16 ways

Probably only a very pedantic person, for whom everything in life has its own place, can boast of perfect order in the closet. For most people, the issue of storing things is not so significant; many do not ask themselves how to properly put things in the closet, they store them haphazardly.

It seems simple enough, but sometimes, due to improper storage, there is not enough space even in a large closet.

Meanwhile, things are a powerful carrier of energetic information about their owner, and by keeping them in an orderly manner, you can significantly change your life, get rid of the turmoil and adversity in it. Therefore, it is imperative to organize the storage of things in the closet and maintain order in it at all times.

To ensure that all things are in perfect order, and the space is not overloaded, it is worth knowing a few simple but effective secrets.

Where do unnecessary things come from?

Man is a very thrifty creature by nature, everyone is taught this from childhood, so in adult life everyone is very sorry to part with their favorite and not so favorite things. Having stored them for years on the shelves of a wardrobe, a person constantly convinces himself that maybe someday he will wear an old dress or lose weight to “fit into” his favorite jeans.

First of all, you need to conduct a global audit and go through absolutely all things.

But often, this is also confirmed by psychologists: “An item that has been gathering dust on a shelf for several years is unlikely to be worn in the future,” so after auditing your own wardrobe, it is worth getting rid of things that have not been worn for several years, forever.

It will take some time, but the result will pleasantly please you.

Important! Psychics vying with each other to repeat that it is absolutely forbidden to store broken, torn, worn-out things! You should part with them immediately, so as not to attract negativity, quarrels and financial difficulties.

If it’s simply a shame to throw away items from your wardrobe, you can always take them to a thrift store, and you can also earn extra money for new clothes.

It is better to immediately take dilapidated and old wardrobe items to a landfill or burn them.

Important! Each item stores energy information about the owner; loved ones, which they wear with joy, attract positive energy, unloved or “forgotten” ones take this energy away.

Features of storing laundry

The following options can be used to store underwear:

  1. Shoe boxes. You can use the boxes themselves or their lids, which can be decorated with fabric. They are placed on a shelf in a closet or in a dresser drawer.
  2. Fabric organizers. They can either look like a simple box or contain various compartments for linen. Plastic dividers. They may look like partitions or honeycombs. They fit into your dresser drawer and prevent things from twisting and moving around.
  3. Vertical organizers. Suitable if you don’t have a chest of drawers. They have transparent pockets located one below the other and hang on a cabinet door or hanger bar.
  4. Hangers. If there is a special compartment in the wardrobe intended for linen, it can be hung on hangers. You can use either special or just small plastic hangers. The method is optimal for storing bras.
  5. Covers. Used primarily for transporting laundry. Allows you to keep it clean and not wrinkled.

There are many ways you can come up with for storing linen in a closet.

To make storage easier, laundry can be folded using various techniques.

Getting rid of unnecessary things, or organizing an audit of things in the closet

To begin with, you need to take out all the things without exception from the closet, both seasonal and not, then you need to:

  • Carefully check for wear, stains, holes and other damage;
  • Set aside items that are worn constantly, separately those that have been worn several times or are inappropriate in size, and, of course, those that have not been worn for a very long time (1-2 years);
  • It’s much easier with children’s things; those that the child has grown up need to be distributed to families with children or sent to the attic if more children are planned.

Those things that still cannot be thrown away must be placed in a separate box, and if after a while you don’t remember about it, then you can safely get rid of them.

How to conveniently arrange things

Proper sorting will help simplify the search and selection of clothes. You can sort things according to different criteria, and you should choose the one that best suits your needs.

By season

Initially, all things should be divided by season and stored separately, in different corners of the closet. Those that definitely won’t be useful for the next six months should be put in the farthest corner and on the top shelves. With the change of season, things simply change places, which allows you to maintain the order established in the closet.

You can try arranging or hanging things in your closet according to the seasons.

By type

This is the most common sorting option. With it, things from certain categories are placed together: trousers, skirts, blouses, T-shirts, socks, belts and so on. Each group is allocated a separate place, in which internal sorting is possible, for example by color.

Most often, clothes in closets are sorted by type.

The top parts of the outfits can be arranged from dark to light, and the bottom parts - from light to dark. This will allow you to quickly find successful combinations. Also, clothes can be divided into shades and everything can be arranged in accordance with the alternating colors of the rainbow. This method will not only save time on searching, but also improve your mood.

To prevent things of similar shades from blending into each other, you can alternate dark and bright clothes when storing them in a stack.

By set

When things are first sorted, they should be divided into two groups: those that go with others and those that don’t. Ideally, the first group should include the vast majority of clothing. Based on this, you can decompose all things into basic sets, used in different cases: for work, walks, parties, celebrations, sports, and so on. However, before that, you should try everything on and make sure that the sets really match and look good.

Japanese storage system

According to the Konmari method, cleaning consists of two stages. The first is getting rid of unnecessary things, the second is organizing space.

  • You need to start by dividing into categories. Separate all dresses from the rest of your clothing. For each category, allocate your own shelf or drawer.
  • After sorting things, see which ones are definitely no longer useful. Sometimes making such a decision is not easy. Think about what emotions each specific thing evokes. Feel free to get rid of clothes that do not evoke any positive associations.
  • Create a “hall of fame” from unnecessary but invaluable items of clothing for your memory. Marie Kondo (the author of the method) advises making a mini-museum of them and placing it in plain sight.
  • Get rid of “home” clothes - always and everywhere you need to dress beautifully, comfortably and fashionably.
  • Marie recommends vertical storage of things folded in a certain way. This way, clothes wrinkle less and take up little space. Each item needs to be folded into a small rectangle. Store not in stacks, but vertically, like books on shelves.
  • Don't keep things "just in case."
  • Always return the item to its place of storage, in its proper category.
  • Don't let things spread and multiply throughout the house.

By putting into practice the methods of organizing a storage system, you can clean up your closet, effectively distribute your existing wardrobe in it and make your life easier.
