Doors with glass inserts: 180+ (Photo) plastic, wooden and aluminum options (entrance, interior, compartment)

Characteristics

Modern manufacturers produce many different models of doors with glass inserts. The main properties that these interior items should have are their durability, reliability and, of course, thoughtful design.

Properly selected door leaves will complement the interior and make it more attractive.

Fashionable pieces with glass are perfect for achieving this goal.

Interior doors with glass have a lot of advantages for which consumers so often choose them:

  • First of all, it should be noted the excellent light transmittance. By installing a similar canvas in a room, you can visually expand the space and make it more airy. Doors that allow additional light to enter the room are an excellent solution for owners of small-sized homes, since with the help of such a simple technique you can visually make the area more spacious.
  • It is also worth noting the ease of use of glazed doors. Glass inserts do not require complex and regular maintenance. In addition, such fabrics do not attract dust and dirt, so they can be easily cleaned without using aggressive chemicals.

  • Modern buyers have a wide choice of models with various glass inserts. You can choose the optimal and harmonious option for absolutely any door frame. This can be not only traditional transparent glass, but also an original part decorated with patterns. Today, fashionable doors with frosted, grained or grooved glass are very popular. Products with large inserts will perfectly illuminate rooms.
  • If you are looking for a more modest but stylish option, then you will like canvases with glass in the middle. In today's market, you can choose a suitable copy for the interior of any style.
  • High-quality doors with glass inserts are not only beautiful, but also multi-tasking. Such canvases can be used not only as interior ones, but also as entrance ones. For such purposes, special models with thermal breaks are ideal.

Glazing is often complemented by side doors. Such inserts do not in any way affect the strength and reliability of the structures and make the canvas more attractive and stylish. Tsar products with frosted glass look especially fashionable.

Many buyers refuse such purchases due to fear of the fragility of the materials.

However, you can dispel worries and worries about the durability of door panels with the help of high-tech models with triplex glass. Such inserts are more reliable and durable, so doors with these elements can be safely installed even in children's bedrooms.

Design features

Doors with glass inserts differ in design, and along with the design, how they affect the overall atmosphere in the house and how they fit into the interior also differs.

Swing

The first of the groups are doors that simply open when you push them. They can be on yourself or on your own, they look very traditional. Most of the doors that can be found in people's homes are swing doors.

They are:
  • Regular . Such doors open towards or away from you, take up a large amount of space and look completely familiar. Entrance doors in apartments almost always belong to this type - it’s both cheaper and more reliable.

Sliding doors in light color

  • Bivalve . Found in private houses decorated in a classic style. They take up even more space than a single design and look pompous and massive. Inside the house, they can only be placed in large rooms - for example, in the dining room, if you are going to receive a couple of dozen guests there.
  • Rocking . They open in both directions and take up space in both rooms they open into. This design is not used for entrance doors; for interior doors it is considered extravagant and is installed only at the request of style - for example, swinging doors look very good in high-tech.
  • Stables . Reminiscent of Westerns - the door is divided into two leaves, you can open one, but not open the other. They are used either to complement the country style, or for practical reasons - when there is someone in the house who cannot be allowed to leave the room, but who needs to be watched. Of course, there are no stable entrance doors.

Option for dividing rooms

Often a door with glass inserts is installed as an analogue of a stable door - it looks better and takes up less space.

Advice If you have a heavy door, consult with a specialist about how many hinges to attach it to. Otherwise, the canvas may become skewed.

Sliding

Such doors are used either in private houses as entrance doors or as interior doors. They have two doors that are attached to a guide and move apart when needed. They take up practically no space; due to the presence of glass, they look even more extravagant than usual.

Beautiful decoration of a country house

They allow:
  • saving space is important if you have a small apartment;
  • to be original - plus they fit perfectly into the Japanese interior.
Disadvantages:
  • the mechanism can quickly fail if it is not taken care of or used too actively - and then you will have to look for a repairman;
  • you can’t make a heavy sliding door, so you’ll have to forget about solid wood and use plastic instead of glass;
  • a sliding door does not provide insulation from noise and cold.
But still, compartment doors look so good that they are still installed, despite the shortcomings.

White doors in Provence style

Advice A door with a frosted glass insert depicting cranes will fit especially well into a Japanese interior.

Roto and folding

In addition to the usual swing and sliding doors, there are two more varieties:

  • Folding ones, they are also “accordions ”. They are a canvas connected by loops - it can have up to five sections. When someone needs to go through the opening, he simply moves the door aside, like a screen. It looks very original and aesthetically pleasing, especially if the door has glass inserts.
  • Roto is the latest development . They are mounted on an axis in the middle of the opening and when a person needs to pass, he simply presses one half of the leaf and the door rotates around its axis. It also takes up a lot of space, like a folding one, but it looks original and very decorative.

Accordion mechanism

The only significant drawback of such doors is the fragility of their mechanisms. Hinges tend to fail. The rotating mechanism too, especially if you use it carelessly. And fixing it can be expensive.

Advice Both roto and folding doors are great for a private home, where there is plenty of space and style allows for the most original solutions.

Models

Beautiful doors with glass inserts can be made in a variety of variations. First of all, such canvases are divided into single and double leaf. Within these large groups, there is a fairly broad classification of door structures that have different components and opening/closing mechanisms.

  • The most common are classic swing doors. Similar products are found in almost every home. It is worth noting that traditional swing options take up a lot of space when opening/closing, so they are not the most convenient options for installation in small spaces. Modern swing structures can have one or two doors.

  • Sliding mechanisms are no less popular today. Thanks to their thoughtful design, which has small rollers, the doors move into slots on the sides when opening. Such models take up a minimum of free space, so they can be safely installed in small homes.

  • An original accordion door is also suitable for a small room. Such products are found a little less frequently than all of the above, but they can still be found in some homes. More recently, accordions were not supplemented with glass inserts, but today manufacturers have begun producing such specimens.

Also, fashionable doors differ from each other in the type of glass insertion:

  • One-piece designs. Such specimens are framed with different frames or are a laconic glass sheet. Frameless options look very original and stylish, but you should treat them with the utmost care and purchase such products only from reputable manufacturers.
  • Separate inserts. In such canvases, the glass insert occupies only part of the entire structure and can be located either at the top or bottom, or in the center.

Types of glass doors

There are several main types.

Sliding doors

This thoughtful design takes up a minimum of usable space, making it especially suitable for decorating small spaces.

Swing

They are the classic and most popular option, which is perfect for any interior design. Hinged models can have either one or two doors and differ in straight or arched shape.

The photo shows a balcony with interior hinged doors decorated with glass.

Recoil

They are canvases that roll away in opposite directions from each other. This design fits perfectly into any size room, but requires additional space on the wall around the doorway.

The photo shows white interior sliding doors with frosted glass in the living room.

Double (double-leaf)

Unlike previous products, double-leaf models take up much more space, so they are most relevant in spacious rooms.

Book door

It has a very stylish and original look and at the same time a fairly high price category.

Pendulum

Due to a special mechanism, the pendulum interior structure opens freely in any direction. In addition, such products do not require a door frame and are extremely simple to install.

Pencil door

Sliding interior pencil case models are an ideal option that saves space and has a truly aesthetic appearance that harmoniously combines with any style and architectural solution.

Design

The design of interior doors with glass inserts can contain a large number of parts that usually come with the door itself. So, for example, in addition to the doors, any swing model has a special set of hinges that are used to attach the door leaf to the jambs.

Most often, such hinges come in the form of standard hinges, which can be easily replaced if necessary.

For all-glass doors and for models with glass inserts, reliable fastening systems play a decisive role, because they determine how convenient the door structure will be during operation.

Good hinges can extend the service life of the door, so you need to approach their selection with full responsibility:

  • If the door leaf is made entirely of glass, then it is necessary to choose hinges that do not require drilling of the leaves. As a rule, such hinges are held in place by the structure due to the fact that they are very tightly pressed to the glass door wings on both sides. By trusting such hinges, you can be absolutely sure that the door is securely fastened.

Accessories for some doors include hidden hinges. They are remarkable in that when looking at the structure and jambs they are not visible, since they are mounted into the ceiling and floor using special pins. Each pin has several tips that rotate in different directions. It is on these tips that the door structure is fixed.

The profile of sliding doors assumes the presence of a special roller mechanism with a special track for the wheels, which is also called a guide. The guide can be divided into several types depending on the type of door.

For example, for ordinary sliding structures that resemble a sliding door, it is necessary to install two guides at once. The entire weight of the door falls on the bottom rail, and the top rail is needed as a secondary auxiliary element.

Usually they come as a set with the doors and are not purchased separately, so when purchasing a door, make sure that all the parts are in the box.

The so-called sliding doors have four rails at once: two on top and two on the bottom, and they do not touch each other. Sliding models are equipped with two guides, the doors of which, when open, go into special recesses in the walls. Radius doors usually have a slightly curved, rounded shape, which is completely repeated by the rails.

The number of rails for such doors depends on the number of leaves. Cascade models include several guides at once that regulate the opening of doors in different directions.

There is also a sliding telescopic mechanism that is designed for special telescopic doors. The specificity of this model is that when opened, its doors move not in different directions, but in one direction. As a rule, such doors are attached using lower and upper guides.

Both doors are connected by a special system, thanks to which when the door is closed, one door automatically pulls after the other.

For swing doors, special axial hinges are suitable, which allow the structure to open in different directions.

In addition to fasteners, the design of an interior door may contain various types of fittings, most of which are decorative. For example, doors with molding are very popular. This is a specific decorative design that looks like a protruding overlay. The molding includes such elegant elements as baguettes, panels, unusual borders, grilles and stucco.

All these things serve as decoration details for the room and, as a rule, are used for rooms designed in classical styles.

The main and auxiliary fittings for interior doors should not only be beautiful, but also of high quality, because the comfortable use of the doors directly depends on this parameter. In modern kits, along with the door there are also door handles and auxiliary fittings necessary for decoration.

Locks are provided for some models, but this rarely happens in the case of interior doors, so they are often ordered separately.

It should be noted that sometimes auxiliary fittings can be of practical importance, especially when it comes to glass doors. For example, for models made of glass, special seals are often used, which are designed to reduce the resonance experienced by the glass and prevent it from rattling when opening or closing the doors.

Such fittings allow you to extend the service life of the glass and protect it from small chips that may appear during operation.

Despite the fact that glass is now produced to be quite strong, experts still recommend using such protective fittings as additional shock absorbers.

Swing doors

This is the name given to doors of traditional design, which usually consist of one leaf. But there may be exceptions: if the doorway is wide or this is the design idea, then in this case the doors may consist of two leaves. Doors can also have a rebate, this ensures the best possible fit to the doorway, and, accordingly, sound and heat insulation is much more reliable.

Double glass doors

This type of door can be mounted in wooden or metal frames. Sometimes there are options that the box material is used as the frame of the door leaf.

Hinged glass door in the interior

Such products are quite practical and provide great scope for the creativity of designers and home craftsmen. But they can only be installed and installed in spacious rooms with a large area, since they require additional space to open.

Materials

Today, glazed doors are made from various materials. This aspect has a direct impact on the cost of the structure. On the modern market there are PVC, laminated, plastic and wooden models.

Wooden

The most popular, of course, are high-quality and environmentally friendly products made from natural wood. The canvases made from oak, walnut, wenge, alder and mahogany look especially chic and expensive. Such products are expensive, but they look unsurpassed and will serve their owners for many years.

However, when purchasing such a wonderful door, you need to take into account the fact that it will need regular care and careful treatment.

Natural wood must be periodically coated with special antiseptic solutions. Without such “maintenance”, natural material may lose its beautiful appearance: dry out, crack or fade.

Parasites often appear in natural wood, and getting rid of them is quite problematic, but if you take a responsible approach to caring for your door, then this problem can be avoided.

MDF, chipboard

More affordable are simple specimens made from materials such as MDF and laminated chipboard. Such designs are the most common. Most buyers choose these options because of their affordable cost, but such doors cannot boast of high-quality and original design. As a rule, cheap canvases have a template and simple appearance.

Products made from laminated chipboard and MDF are wear-resistant and not subject to mechanical damage.

However, few people know that particle boards are toxic, since they contain formaldehyde resins. These additives, when exposed to high temperatures, release harmful substances that have an adverse effect on human health.

If you do not want to harm yourself, then it is better to purchase a door made of class “e-1” chipboard or a veneered option. Such specimens are safe and more environmentally friendly.

Plastic

If you are planning to purchase a beautiful but inexpensive door, then you should look for original plastic models. The main advantages of such products are that they last a long time, do not rot and can be painted in almost any color.

It is impossible not to note the lightness of plastic structures. Doors made from this material are very easy and quick to install.

In addition, they are not subject to subsidence and other possible deformations, since they do not suffer from their own impressive weight, like, for example, models made from natural solid oak.

An inexpensive plastic door can be matched to an interior decorated in any palette. The fact is that such material can be easily processed and can be painted in a variety of colors.

However, it is not recommended to install plastic doors in areas exposed to direct sunlight, as in such conditions they may fade.

Glass door design

The glass can be inserted as a whole sheet into a wooden frame, or the glass sash can be frameless. A popular option is doors with separate glass elements. The shape of the inserts is an interesting design technique that gives the products an unusual look. There are a lot of design options for inserts.

Rectangular, triangular, round glasses or elements in the form of arches, rhombuses, squares are placed at the top/bottom or combined in interesting ways. The sizes of the curly elements can also be different.

In addition to the texture of the door leaf, glass inserts are of particular design interest. Manufacturers offer several popular glass design options:

  • transparent - a traditional insert option, which is most often used in classic interiors;
  • matte - opaque on both sides, look great in sliding panels. Usually they have a silver tone, but they can also be colored;
  • with etched surface. The glass sheet is treated with acid, which creates spectacular chaotic patterns. It must be taken into account that such glass is brittle;
  • stained glass. The mosaic is formed by small colored elements. Inserts created using fusing technology look more artistic;
  • fashionable sandblasting allows you to depict any patterns on the glass surface, just select the desired template;
  • colored or tinted.

When ordering individually, glass panels are decorated with photo printing. When laser engraving, a shining image is formed on glass, and the material does not lose strength. If you use special paints for glass, it’s easy to paint any ornament or picture on the surface yourself. It is noteworthy that the drawing can be fit into any style.

Most often, glass interior doors in apartments are equipped with frosted or stained glass inserts.

Opaque elements create an atmosphere of security and privacy. Colored glass and fusing or stained glass look organically in modern interiors.

Doors with stained-glass glass inserts, decorated in the form of bright pictures, will harmoniously decorate children's rooms. Bright scenes on glass can also be depicted using the spraying technique. This is an expensive decor, but it is practical and durable.

Doors with long inserts made of frosted or transparent glass visually raise the ceiling and effectively “move apart” the walls.

Corrugated glass is an original alternative to frosted inserts. Glass elements in white, silver or golden shades, decorated with bevels, look unusual.

Types of doors with glass

To make a choice of model, it is necessary to consider by what parameters the products are classified. When installing doors, you first need to decide how the doors will open. The three most common options are:

  • swing There are single and double doors. This is the most common type as it is suitable for installation in large and small openings;
  • folding doors function like an accordion - they consist of several leaves;
  • sliding panels are canvases that move to the sides, moving on rollers along specially installed rails. These models are suitable for rooms where there is not enough space to open the door leaves.

When choosing a material, it is necessary to take into account the style of the interior. Manufacturers offer several types of doors:

  • made of wood. Doors assembled from solid wood stand out for their respectability, durability, and retain their elegant appearance for a long time. Such models are expensive and are made of walnut, oak, ash, teak, and hornbeam. Products made from rosewood, Karelian birch, red/black, ebony wood belong to the premium segment. Naturally, such products are made to order;
  • laminate is an artificial analogue of veneer. The film imitates the texture of various woods so believably that you can choose a product from any “expensive” wood;
  • Veneer is a great way to give doors an expensive look and save money. The actual fabric of the product is assembled from chipboard and pine lumber. Veneer is glued to both sides of the door. The surfaces are sanded and varnished. The technology is used in the production of smooth and embossed door panels. Such models (as in the photo) are environmentally friendly, since special wood glue and natural wood are used. They are installed selectively, since the canvases react to changes in humidity. As the indicators increase, the wood may swell and the veneer may peel off.

Plastic doors are ideal for installation in the bathroom or kitchen. The frame of the canvas is assembled from pine boards and covered with decorative plastic boards. The most popular products are white, but it is easy to choose canvases of different color palettes. The surface texture can imitate wood of different species. Of the minuses, it should be noted that such canvases are not textured.

Design and drawings of doors with glass inserts

With the help of various designs and patterns on glass, you can turn the door into a real art object.

Patterned

They are distinguished by their unique aesthetics and represent the basis for the formation of a unique, designer interior.

Stained glass

Picturesque interior paintings with artistic glass are a very bright decorative element that can significantly refresh and enrich a calm and discreet environment.

Glass lattice

It has ideal geometric shapes, soft smooth lines and a noble appearance, due to which it is possible to harmonize the surrounding space.

With photo printing on the surface

With the help of such modern decor as photo printing, you can radically change the usual environment and make the door structure unique, bright and interesting.

With decorative stickers

Thanks to decorative stickers, you can easily refresh and stylishly decorate a glass surface, without depriving it of its airiness, transparency and weightlessness.

With transom

A transom is an additional leaf above the door structure, decorated with insert glass, which in turn can be frosted, transparent, stained glass or decorated with a chamfer, painting, mosaic or engraving.

Sliding doors

Such doors can be used in an apartment of any size. These doors move using special rails. Also, this type of door can be used for zoning space.

Doors using glass are not cheap, so if you find an economical option, then most likely it is ordinary glass, which can break with a strong push or impact.

Plain glass doors are expensive, but the price is justified.

Advantages of glass products

Nowadays, such a solution to the input block is often encountered. Sometimes people, in order to decide to buy such a thing, want to know about all its positive qualities.

Among the most noticeable positive characteristics it is worth noting:

  • High light transmittance. Therefore, they are often installed where there are no windows - light from another room passes through them.
  • Visually increase the space. They add air, make the wall lighter and seem transparent.
  • Gives completeness to the design. They make the overall look complete and logical.
  • Original. They look logical and at the same time unusual in any environment.
  • Moisture resistant. You can place it at the entrance to any room, even the most humid one. They will not swell or warp.
  • Help with zoning. With their help, lightweight partitions are mounted, with which it is not difficult to separate the recreation area from the work area.
  • Practical and easy to care for. They can be washed, even old and difficult stains can be cleaned without unnecessary difficulties. Do not attract dirt and dust.
  • Not deformed. Regardless of the type of impact, they do not warp, do not tilt, and do not take in water. The only thing that can happen is that if they are hit hard by a sharp object, they can break.
  • Lungs. Compared to massive wood and iron, they weigh significantly less.
  • Variety of types, shades, textures. The modern market offers a huge selection of products to suit any interior style.

If the future owner still thinks that a glass item will be too fragile, it is worth taking a closer look at the triplex system. This is a much more durable design and can be installed in homes with small children.

Their only drawback is that such models contradict a person’s desire for privacy. Sometimes there is a feeling of a constantly open doorway. This can make it difficult to feel protected.

Glass interior doors: photos of interesting ideas

The choice of glass interior doors is complicated by the fact that they have their own distinct personality.
In fact, this is a decorative element and must be selected in accordance with the design style of the room, and this is not easy even for professional designers. What can we say about those who design interiors themselves. To help, we have collected several interesting ideas that we hope will help you in choosing glass interior doors specifically for your requirements. Dimensions

When choosing a suitable door design, you should carefully measure the opening between the rooms in length and width. Even if the dimensions of this space are standard, and you can roughly name them, it is better to make sure of this again.

Otherwise, the door leaf will have to be adjusted to fit the opening, which often takes a lot of time and effort.

Regarding the opening width, the international standard for interior doors varies from 60-90 cm. Of course, it all depends on the immediate type of construction. For example, for corner models, the width is most often determined individually.

There is no standard for the height of door structures. As a rule, this indicator depends on the height of the ceiling in the room. The interior door can reach 190 cm or 220 cm.

Types of glass

In the minds of the average person, glass is a fragile material. Fortunately, this vulnerable characteristic does not work in glass interior doors. Technologies of the 21st century make it possible to create glass with high strength indicators.

  1. Sheet glass is widely used in the production of interior doors. It can be of different thicknesses and with appropriate markings.
  2. Tempered glass undergoes a special heat treatment during the production process, which increases its strength by 5-6 times. Even if such glass breaks, it will shatter into small round pieces that are safe for human health.
  3. Laminated glass is a multilayer cake in which glass sheets are connected to each other by a film and a special liquid. There can be several layers. When hit, laminated glass does not break, but cracks.
  4. Triplex is considered a simplified type of laminated glass. Consists of two sheets of glass glued together with film or liquid.

How to choose?

When choosing a high-quality door structure, pay attention to its color, the material from which it is made, as well as the dimensions of the product. Buy only models that match the style of your main ensemble.

Models with large glazed inserts will look good in the kitchen or dining room.

  • in the bedroom due to the transparent glass, which makes the room more spacious.

If you still want to install such a canvas in the bedroom, then it is better to choose products with corrugated, matte or stained glass inserts.

Variegated specimens with bright colored patterns will find their place in modern interiors. The main thing is that the palette of multi-colored mosaics matches the color scheme of the decor.

It is not recommended to install doors with large glass in children's rooms. A child may accidentally damage the structure, which will lead to unpleasant consequences in the form of a broken insert and an injured child.

Color palette of doors with glass

When choosing a color, you can start from the palette of flooring or furniture, or the color of the walls. There are no hard and fast rules, and you should be guided mainly by your sense of style. It happens that the interiors of individual rooms in an apartment differ. In this case, they focus on the design of corridors or hallways.

A proven option is to install doors of the same shade with the floor covering. This is easy to do if the floor in the entire apartment is decorated with the same material. If different laminated coatings were used, then designers recommend choosing doors that are several shades lighter.

A popular solution is to combine the color of the doors with the shade of the furniture. If the room has dark furniture, then the products are installed in the same color or several shades lighter. Tinted glass inserts will soften the gloom of the interior.

There are interiors of apartments and houses where the shades of the flooring and furniture are different. And the wall decoration is made in approximately the same color palette. In such cases, it is advisable to install doors that match the color of the walls. For rooms decorated in white and beige shades, doors of light colors (Milanese walnut, maple) are selected.

Designers from America and Europe practice this stylish solution. When choosing the shade of doors, do not focus on the color of furniture, walls or flooring. Simply select products with transparent inserts, painted white, gray or with a bleached oak or beech texture. To give the interior a holistic look, all rooms are finished with platbands and wide baseboards of the same color or texture.

If the color of the furniture in adjacent rooms is different, then an excellent solution to the problem would be to install veneered interior models. The sides of the doors facing the corridor or hall are decorated in one color. And for other parties, individual color schemes are selected. Glass inserts will play the role of a unifying element.

White doors are always in demand and appropriate. This option can be called universal, since the light palette looks organically in the interior of any style. Beautiful white products bring a feeling of lightness to rooms and blend harmoniously with furnishings decorated in different colors. Elegantly supporting the country or Provence style are doors with an aging effect and transparent or frosted glass inserts.

Beautiful ideas in the interior

Glass doors look organic in many ensembles. For example, large matte sliding structures with transparent patterned lines will fit perfectly into the decor of a snow-white dining area with a soft brown floor, a white table and chocolate chairs.

A wenge-colored sliding door with narrow horizontal glass inserts will harmonize with soft coffee-colored walls, decorated with decorative plaster or relief coatings, as well as a soft, compact creme brulee-colored sofa.

In a room with pastel or white walls, as well as a soft brown floor, simple designs in a light caramel shade with vertical narrow glass inserts will look great.

Stylish glass structures with matte finishes separated by thin transparent lines can be installed in a light corridor in a pale gray or milky shade.

Thus, doors with strict lines and rectangular, unsmoothed shapes will suit classic interiors. Models with corrugated or patterned glass will add nobility and elegance to the room.

Classic doors will look harmonious with such non-trivial styles as country, rustic and, of course, Provence. They will not spoil rooms made in a minimalist Scandinavian style.

Decorative glazed doors with or without a pattern will also complement designs in modern styles such as Art Nouveau.

The lines of such doors are usually rounded and smooth, and the design is laconic and simple. Various types of appliqués, stained glass inserts, mosaics and fusing are usually used as decorative elements. Such doors look extraordinary and lively.

Geometric doors with a minimum of details are perfect for rooms in high-tech and techno style. Typically, the severity of such models is diluted with an extensive insert of tempered glass.

In what style is it better to decorate the interior?

Design options in a variety of styles:

  • Classical. Interior doors with glazing, in the form of an imitation window with a white frame, canvases in calm beige, white, light brown colors, decorated with symmetrical beveled glass inserts with regular lines and simple shapes, will become the visual compositional center of a classic interior.
  • Provence. Interior products in clean and muted colors with elements made of frosted or transparent glass, decorated with sandblasted floral patterns, smooth lines and discreet ornaments, are perfect for the Provencal style. Also quite often found here are door models with a French lattice, made of natural wood, MDF, veneer or eco-veneer.
  • High tech. Modern plastic and metal structures with horizontal, vertical corrugated or frosted glass strips in combination with chrome fittings will not stand out from the overall design of advanced technologies.
  • Minimalism. A room in a minimalist style requires more brightness and light, so interior doors with transparent glass without patterns and having a regular geometric shape would be especially appropriate here.
  • Modern. Fully glazed transparent sliding models, designs such as a book or an accordion, two-color products with plexiglass using tinted or colored film will fit perfectly into a modern environment.
  • English. Most often, natural dimensional models in dark colors, decorated with capitals or wide trims, are used in the English style. Using glass inserts, you can lighten these massive canvases a little and give them grace.

The photo shows a classic-style bedroom with an interior single-leaf door decorated with patterned glass.

Interior products with matte, transparent, grainy corrugated inserts or glazed panels in the middle are quite a noticeable detail of the interior, so they must fit correctly into the overall style without causing disharmony.

Which is better to choose glass doors for a room, taking into account its purpose?

The assortment of modern stores offers a huge selection of options for designing interior openings. The design of such structures is diverse enough to support almost any interior style.

According to consumer reviews, glass interior doors produced by factories in France, Italy and Germany are considered the highest quality and most reliable. It is the companies of these countries that annually replenish the market with thousands of new models with unique and original designs that attract buyers.

For the living room and other rooms designed in a classic style, it is advisable to select light models with two panels and transparent glass inserts that imitate windows. Such designs look elegant and refresh the interior. In addition, their design is neutral, so the door will not distract attention.

Glass doors visually enlarge the room and make the ceilings higher

For dark and cramped rooms, double-leaf models with a large glazing area are suitable. Such doors will add more natural light, making the room seem more spacious than it actually is, and its ceilings much higher.

Doors with a large glazing area are suitable for the following premises:

  • dining room;
  • kitchens;
  • living room.

It is not advisable to use such structures for bedrooms, since transparent glass does not provide the necessary level of intimacy and security.

Helpful advice! If desired, you can install a glass interior door made of frosted glass, corrugated or decorated with stained glass in the rest room. The glass area should be small.

It is better to avoid using doors with frosted glass in the kitchen. During the cooking process, the surface of the material quickly becomes dirty. Fat and food get on it, and traces of water remain. Frosted glass is very difficult to clean, so such models are not convenient and practical.

Folding doors are excellent space savers

Doors with large glass inserts are not suitable for children's rooms, because children can break them while playing (this is especially true for fragile types of glass).

Plexiglas is almost 2.5 times lighter than ordinary glass, 17% lighter than compact PVC and 7% lighter than polyester glass, so the use of additional supports is not required when building self-supporting structures. Plexiglas has the same weight as polycarbonate and is 15% heavier than polystyrene.

Impact resistance

The impact strength of acrylic sheet is 5 times higher than that of ordinary silicate glass.

Moisture resistance

Weather resistance

It is able to work in a wide range of temperatures, without softening or deforming at high temperatures, and without cracking or warping at low temperatures, and is resistant to adverse weather conditions. Acrylic glass is highly resistant to aging. Its mechanical and optical properties do not change noticeably under long-term atmospheric exposure.

UV resistance

Organic glass transmits 90% of ultraviolet rays, while having good light fastness and an excellent level of resistance to ultraviolet rays, without requiring special protection. This is explained by the fact that, by its chemical nature, plexiglass is transparent to ultraviolet radiation. Therefore, ultraviolet radiation does not linger in the polymer mass and does not have a destructive effect on its internal structure (ultraviolet rays do not cause yellowing and degradation, and the material does not lose its mechanical properties for 10 years or more).

Light transmittance

The absence of intrinsic coloring and transparency provide the opportunity to provide high light transmittance. The light transmission of acrylic sheets is the same as that of glass. Light transmittance is up to 93% of visible light (only 8% of incident light is reflected), more than any other polymer material. The color of plexiglass does not change over time and retains its original color. The light transmission of “frosted” plexiglass can range from 20% (i.e., be practically “deaf”) to 75% (translucent). Sheets with a light transmission of 50-75% are used, for example, for the production of lamps. The optimal light transmission option for advertising products with internal lighting is 25-30%.

Environmental friendliness

Acrylic is an environmentally friendly material, does not produce any toxic substances and is absolutely safe. It can be used outdoors and indoors, including in children's and medical institutions. Plexiglass can be completely reused once it is recycled.

Machinability

Acrylic glass is easy to process. It can be cut, drilled, glued, bent and shaped, polished and routed, painted and engraved (including laser engraving), and has excellent adhesion to all types of self-adhesive vinyl films.

Design

Experienced designers claim that no other material used in the production of doors can provide such freedom in decoration as glass.

Let's start with the fact that glass can be transparent and frosted. Obviously, matte ones are ideal for a bathroom or toilet.

Next comes a variety of colors. Glass tinting occurs at the initial stage of glass melting, when a certain dye is added to the finished mass.

In the manufacture of glass doors, sandblasting of the surface using a stencil is actively used, after which a matte pattern appears on the main door leaf.

The same glass doors for the toilet can be decorated with resin stained glass. The stained glass pattern is not created from pieces of multi-colored glass, but is painted with varnishes. By increasing the layer of paint in individual details of the drawing, you can achieve three-dimensionality of the image.

Another popular method of decorating glass doors is fusing. A sketch of the image is drawn on the canvas, then pieces of glass are laid out on the drawing and sintered. The result is a watercolor effect.

And finally, the famous Tiffany stained glass window, when the entire door leaf consists of individual colored parts, together forming a magnificent picture.
