How to sew an ottoman bag with your own hands: photos and ideas

You can make an interesting product for your child. A DIY ottoman bag is perfect for creating a cozy place to spend your leisure time.

A soft piece of furniture can be made from two pieces of fabric, bean pellet filling and a zipper. This option is not suitable for small children, as the filler granules may fall out of the unzipped zipper. There is a danger of the child choking. If necessary, the zipper can be sewn up.

THE IDEA is that we sew like a bag - BUT we sew the OPPOSITE corners and get the design as in the photo

Of what?

You can make a beautiful and practical ottoman with your own hands from different materials.:

  1. Photo 6Plastic bottles.
    The products are characterized by wear resistance, the ability to withstand heavy loads, environmental friendliness, fast production times, and minimal costs. Plastic bottles act as the frame of the furniture item, and the cover is sewn from textiles.

    To make the pouf as comfortable and soft as possible, a foam rubber lining is placed between the bottles and the fabric cover..

    The shape of such a pouf is most often made round. Its cover is made from fabric of any color. You can decorate furniture with buttons, fringe, and lace.

  2. Foam rubber. Such models have a removable fabric cover and are filled with foam rubber inside. Their shape can be varied: round, square, triangular. The advantages of the product include light weight, compactness, a wide range of applications - you can take it with you for fishing or put it on the balcony.
  3. Car tires. The pouf will delight its owners with its high technical characteristics. It is constructed from old tires. Used as home or garden furniture. Outdoor products are painted and topped with plywood covered with fabric . Home furniture is completely decorated with twine or textiles.

  4. Photo 16Chipboard.
    This material is easy and simple to work with. The pouf can be made entirely from chipboard, or it can be covered with textiles on top. The positive aspects of such furniture include: durability, reliability, affordable cost, wide selection of textures and colors. The pouf can be upholstered with: leather, leatherette, chenille, jacquard, velor.

  5. Cable reels, which are covered with foam rubber and upholstery fabric. The result is a stylish and easy-to-use piece of furniture that can decorate any interior. Using your imagination, you can make a bright and original ottoman for your child’s room in the shape of a fly agaric in a forest clearing.
  6. Knitting yarn. It features interesting designs, functionality, environmental friendliness, light weight and mobility. It will take needlewomen only a few hours to knit a colorful ottoman cover . The distinctive features of knitted knitwear include: the absence of a back, low height and the presence of soft filler inside. The absence of sharp corners allows it to be used in children's rooms. At the same time, parents do not have to worry that the child will get hurt on the edges of the furniture.
  7. Available materials. By collecting enough fabric (and old clothes instead of filling) you can get an unusual piece of furniture.

As for upholstery materials, they are selected according to the overall interior of the premises. Velor and velvet are considered the most popular fabrics . They are pleasant to the touch and can add a special charm and warm atmosphere to the room. But this fabric is quite difficult to care for.

Tip : silk and jacquard are best suited for the interior of a bedroom or living room. They have a noble appearance.

Leather will suit classic and modern designs. This material is easy to maintain and is wear-resistant.

What can it be made from?

To create a pouf, almost any materials, even waste materials, can be used. In stores, most often they sell wood-based products, covered with fabric or leather and with a soft padding in the form of foam rubber and similar materials. Moreover, the gasket can be located either only on top, or along the entire surface of the ottoman.

If we talk about pouffe pillows, they do not have a strong solid frame, they are made entirely of fabric and have a soft filling. They are usually used for recreation and are not placed in hallways.

You can make a beautiful and comfortable ottoman from old leather items

The best materials for a pouf in the hallway are leather, leatherette or eco-leather. They are especially relevant if there are children or a dog in the house. Any dirt that may appear on the upholstery of the pouf in the hallway can be easily removed by wiping the product with a cloth. However, this material differs in that it can be easily damaged by sharp objects. By the way, leather poufs fit perfectly into almost any interior - a lot will depend on the decor. But they give the room some officiality. You can also cover the pouf with thick furniture fabric such as flock. The most important requirement is that the fabric must be dense and not prone to damage.

The base of a homemade pouf is usually wood or its derivatives (for example, plywood, chipboard). But some craftsmen have figured out how to make such seats from old car tires, plastic bottles, wooden fruit crates and similar materials that are usually thrown away.

Pouf from a box

As for the legs, they are usually also made of wood. But you can also screw on the wheels. It is important to consider what material the floor is made of. Some types of coatings are easily damaged by sharp corners.

Important! Metal legs for a pouf are not the best option. They can negatively affect almost any type of coating.

Pouf cube

As for the color scheme, you need to focus on the shades that were used to create the interior. For a dark hallway, the best option is a light ottoman, and vice versa. In general, an ottoman can become a bright decorative element in a room and significantly decorate it.

Style and design

Photo 7
To give the room an original and exclusive appearance, the pouf should be made bright and colorful. For children's rooms, rich colors of blue, pink, and turquoise are chosen.

Of course, it must be in harmony with the overall interior. You can also decorate a piece of furniture with beads, rhinestones or embroidery.

For classical motifs such as baroque or rococo, it is recommended to attach curved or carved legs to the product . Their upholstery is made of velvet, velor or leather in subdued neutral tones.

For the high-tech style, a metal frame is taken as the basis, the seat is made of artificial leather. Their legs are shaped like arcs and painted chrome.

The minimalism direction requires a minimum of decor and ornaments.

Important: light-colored products visually increase the space. But for hallways this option is not entirely appropriate. Because if they come into contact with dirty shoes and clothes, they will get dirty.

How to make a stylish ottoman cover with your own hands

To make a case you will need:

  • Matter (type depends on preference);
  • Needle and thread;
  • Adhesive tape (you can use a zipper if desired);
  • Decoration elements.

Using the measurements, cut out the blank for the lid, not forgetting to leave a few centimeters in reserve. Cut out the side blank.
